I recently got a chance to play through around an hour of Necrophosis: Full Consciousness on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
You can find my gameplay video, along with my written impressions, below:
Pros:
- Creepy and surrealist atmosphere.
- Creative and disturbing puzzle design.
Cons:
- Some rooms are too dark even with brightness set to max.
Overall:
Necrophosis: Full Consciousness is a horror adventure game that is advertised to combine Zdzisław Beksiński and H.P. Lovecraft.
The graphics are an immediate standout as you are treated with a lot of creepy and surrealist visuals. The characters and environment are grotesque and highly detailed. While there aren’t a lot of jump scares and you don’t really die, you can’t help but be freaked out at times.
The game also features some disturbing yet creating puzzle design. In some cases, you will chat with the disturbing creatures of the world, who ask you to find something. While the solutions are rather simple, there is an added context to the puzzles that make them unique when compared to other puzzlers.
The only real issue I have with Necrophosis is that some of the rooms can be really dark, which makes it hard to see. For reference, I was playing the game on an OLED with the in-game brightness set to the maximum.
Aside from that, Necrophosis: Full Consciousness is a very unique adventure game that is highly recommended if you are a fan of the genre.
