How to test Ring Glass Break Sensor

After installing the Ring Glass Break Sensor, you probably want to test it out to see if it is working properly. In order to properly do so, you can take a look at this guide from Seeking Tech.

Before we begin, it should be noted that the Ring Glass Break Sensor is designed to reduce any false alarms. Therefore, playing an audio or video recording of a breaking glass may not trigger the sensor. Instead, Ring recommends using a professional grade glass breaking simulator device if you can get your hands on one.

1. To begin, Ring recommends that you set your entire Ring System to Disarmed Mode in the Ring App. Otherwise, the test may trigger a false alarm call from the company’s monitoring center.

2. In the Ring App, you should also turn off the Power Save Mode for your Ring Glass Break Sensor. If you don’t, then the device won’t be able to detect glass breaking if you disarmed the entire Ring System.

3. Next, check to see if the Ring Glass Break Sensor is turned on and connect to your Ring Base Station. It should display a single green light. It is displaying something else, or nothing at all, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting guide.

4. With the sensor set up and ready for testing, Ring recommends that you first pound the wall close to the Ring Glass Break Sensor.

5. You can then quickly playback the audio or video file that contains the glass breaking noise.

While you can break actual glass, it is not recommended by Ring. If you are still interested in doing so, make sure that you don’t accidentally harm yourself or anyone else nearby.

6. If the sensor doesn’t appear to be detecting the glass breaking, then you can try using a different audio or video file. You can also try increasing the volume and moving the device that is playing the audio/video closer to the Ring Glass Break Sensor.

7. After testing the Glass Break Sensor, make sure you turn the Power Save Mode back on if you have it previously enabled in the Ring App.

8. You should also make sure that you set your entire Ring System to something other than Disarmed Mode inside the Ring App to reactivate the home security system after you are done with the testing.
