How to fix Samsung Freestyle flickering, dimming and distorted color issues

When using your Samsung Freestyle, you may experience flickering, flashing, dimming and/or color distortion.

To see how you can potentially fix these issues, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article at Seeking Tech.

1. For the flickering, flashing and/or dimming issues, the first step you can try taking is to disable the Contrast Enhancer feature.

In order to do so, you will need to take the following steps:

  • Press the home button on the remote that came with the portable projector.
  • Afterwards, select the icon with the three horizontal lines, which should get you to the Menu.
  • You then need to select the icon with the gear cog wheel, which should get you to Settings.
  • Select All Settings.
  • Next, you need to select Picture.
  • Select Expert Settings.
  • Finally, select Contrast Enhancer.
  • If Contrast Enhancer is enabled, then make sure to turn this feature off.

2. You can also try changing to a different Picture Mode by pressing the home button on the remote controller, selecting Menu and then selecting Settings.

Next, you need to go to All Settings, then Picture and, finally, Picture Mode.

3. You can also manually adjust various display settings to see if you can get a better projected picture coming from the Samsung Freestyle.

In order to do so, you need to do the following:

  • Push the home button on the portable projector’s remote.
  • You should then pick Menu.
  • Pick All Settings.
  • Next, you need to pick Picture.
  • Lastly, pick Expert Settings.
  • You will be able to adjust the Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness and Color Tint (G/R).

4. If the Samsung Freestyle is only displaying in black and white, then it may be due the Grayscale setting.

To find and disable this feature, you need to do the following:

  • Using remote control of the projector, push the home button.
  • Next, head over to Menu.
  • Head over to Settings.
  • You then need to head over to All Settings.
  • Head over to General & Privacy.
  • Head over to Accessibility.
  • Finally, head over to Grayscale.
  • If Grayscale is turned on, make sure to disable it.

5. Moreover, you can also try resetting the picture settings to their default values by doing the following:

Once again, you will need to press the home button on your remote controller, select Menu and then select Settings.

Next, select All Settings, then Picture, then Expert Settings and, finally, Reset Picture.

6. You can also use the Picture Test feature to help potentially diagnose your issue.

In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • Start by pressing the home button on the remote.
  • Open the Menu.
  • You then need to open Settings.
  • Open Support.
  • Next, you have to open Device Care.
  • Open Self Diagnosis.
  • Finally, select Picture Test.

7. If your portable projector is connected an external device, then you can try changing the HDMI black level to make the picture less dim and/or better color accuracy.

To do so, press the home button on the remote and then go to Menu > Settings > All Settings > Connection > External Device Manager > HDMI Black Level.
