I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Hell Clock on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Mad Mushroom.

You can find my gameplay video below:

You can also check out my first impressions of Hell Clock below:

Pros:

  • Fun and snappy combat.
  • Accessibility features.
  • Unique Brazil setting.

Cons:

  • None.

Overall:

Hell Clock is a roguelike action RPG based on the historical events of the Canudos Massacre in Brazil.

The game is similar to Hades as you need to beat all the levels in one sitting. The main difference is that Hell Clock features a timer that ends your run when the clock hits zero. This adds an extra layer of urgency, as you often need to pick your fights and exploration opportunities when the timer starts to run low.

When you die, or run out of time, you have the opportunity to get permanent buffs in order to make subsequent runs easier.

Combat is quite fun as well. You start out with a gun that automatically aims at the nearest target. As you progress further, you unlock more unique attacks and abilities. When you gain levels, you can pick between different power ups that further enhance your combat abilities (although you will lose these boosts when your run ends).

Even if you are not a fan of roguelikes, Hell Clock comes with a host of accessibility features, including a relaxed mode that removes the clock. You can also unlock all skills as well as enable vengeance mode, which makes you stronger after every failed run.

If you are a fan of Hades, then Hell Clock offers a unique and fun take on the roguelike formula. Even if you aren’t a fan of the genre, you should also have a fun time playing thanks to the accessibility features.
