I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Dungeon Antiqua 2 on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by AMATA K.K.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check out my first impressions of Dungeon Antiqua 2 below:
Pros:
- More streamlined when compared to the first game.
- Multiple dungeons to explore.
- Fast random encounters.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
Dungeon Antiqua 2 is a dungeon-crawling JRPG that is heavily inspired by the early Final Fantasy games.
The sequel is more streamlined when compared to the first game. For instance, dungeons have plenty of warp points to get back to town. In fact, you get to learn the warp spell early on.
Furthermore, your character level no longer resets when you change class, which means that you no longer have to worry about leveling up your character again.
Finally, enemies now appear on the map, so you can avoid encounters instead of having to deal with random battles.
These changes make Dungeon Antiqua 2 a lot more accessible than its prequel. If you want a challenge, then the game offers a Hard Mode that makes enemy more aggressive on the map, limits warping opportunities, disables manual saving inside of dungeons, and more.
While the first game takes place in one singular dungeon, you are able to explore multiple ones in the sequel. This provides a lot of added diversity and openness to exploration.
Overall, Dungeon Antiqua 2 is a more streamlined and ultimately better version of the first game, which is already a great dungeon crawling JRPG. If you are a fan of the genre, then make sure to check out this sequel.
