I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by The Redner Group.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check out my first impressions of the Croc 2 remaster below:
Pros:
- Retro and remastered visuals.
- Multiple difficulty options.
- Modernized controls.
- Lots of extra behind-the-scenes content.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos is a remaster of the original Croc 2, which was originally released in 1999.
While the new version enhances the visuals, a retro graphics setting is also available if you want the game to look similar to the original PS1 release. There are also graphical options where you can mix between retro and remaster effects.
When you start a new save file, you can pick between three different difficulty options. The first is the original difficulty, while the other is the rebalanced difficulty from the PC port that came out in 2000. The last option is the modernized one, which is more streamlined than the other two.
The controls have also been modernized as you can freely control the camera with the right analog, while the left analog provides full 360-degree movement. Outside of a few awkward jumps where it is hard to judge where you will land, the game plays smoothly.
The developer at Titanium Studios and Argonaut Games also went all out with a bunch of behind-the-scenes content, including documentary videos, design materials, and more.
Overall, Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos is an excellent remaster to a classic 3D platformer thanks to the streamlined quality of life features and abundance of extra behind-the-scenes content. If you are a fan of the genre, then don’t miss out on the Croc 2 remaster.
