Axe Cop is now available on the PlayStation 5. I recently got a chance to play the game for around an hour on a PS5 Pro console thanks to a review code provided by Penguin Pop Games.
You can find my video walkthrough, with no commentary, below:
The following is my quick impressions on Axe Cop:
Quick Impressions:
Pros:
- Charming character designs.
- Unserious and unpredictable story that constantly surprises you at every turn.
- Unique character abilities inside and outside of combat.
Cons:
- Running feels stiff. A dedicated run button is desperately needed.
Overall:
Based on what I have played so far, Axe Cop is a great retro JRPG-style indie game. There are unique characters and abilities that makes combat and exploration fun. Along with a zany story filled with many crazy twists so far, this game easily stands, in a very good way, out against other releases in the same genre.
The only real drawback is that running in the game feels very stiff. There is no dedicated run button; instead, you need to move in the same direction long enough to run. And when you run, it’s like going from 0 to 100 miles per hour, making movement quite jarring.
