I recently got a chance to play around the first hour of Prinny Party: Going Overboard! on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by NIS America.
You can find my gameplay video, as well as my first impressions, below:
Pros:
- Unique mix of Disgaea and board game mechanics.
- Chaotic multiplayer.
Cons:
- Only one game board.
Overall:
Prinny Party: Going Overboard is a board game that incorporates various Disgaea elements.
Your main goal is to defeat the final boss and his minions. In order to do so, you have to build up your stats by landing on specific spaces, buying new equipment, killing enemies, and more.
A lot of the stable Disgaea features are included, such as the throwing mechanics, character classes, and Dark Assembly.
While you can play completely on your own, it is highly recommended as the board game will end when you die. By playing with others, the game will continue as long as one player remains alive.
Prinny Party: Going Overboard supports up to four players, which you can mix and match with computer-controlled bots. Unfortunately, the game does not support online multiplayer.
The multiplayer can get pretty chaotic, as you most likely need to team up to defeat the final boss and his minions. Afterwards, however, you need to carry the captured enemies back to the starting point.
Whoever delivers the bounty will win, which means that players who previously worked together will not sabotage each other. Of course, you can choose to attack other players at any time during the gameplay.
The only real negative is that there is only one game board available. It would have been nice to get different layouts to keep the gameplay fresh.
Outside of the lack of game boards, Prinny Party: Going Overboard provides a fun and unique take to both Disgaea and board games. If you are a fan of either of these, then make sure to check out this new release.
