I recently got a chance to play around an hour of 1989 After The War on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Ratalaika Games.
You can find my gameplay video, as well as my first impressions, below:
Pros:
- Responsive controls.
- Challenging but rewarding 2D action platforming.
- Mid-level checkpoints.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
1989 After The War is a 2D action platformer, where you mainly attack enemies with your sword. You can also use gernades, which are limited in stock.
Furthermore, you can also use a shotgun; while it has infinite ammo and can pierce through enemies, this special attack does have a cool down.
The stages in 1989 After The War are packed with enemies and environmental hazards. This means that you will die early and often. Thankfully, the game controls well and provides mid-stage checkpoints to help you out.
Once you manage to beat the boss of the stage, you will feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
If you enjoy fun and challenging 2D action platformers, then make sure to check out 1989 After The War.
