Dimensional Animals on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Dimensional Animals on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by eastasiasoft.

You can take a look at my gameplay video below:

You can also find my first impressions of Dimensional Animals below:

Pros:

  • Fun Metroidvania precision platformer.
  • Charming pixel graphics.

Cons:

  • Frame drops when kicking rocks.

Overall:

Dimensional Animals is a 2D Metroidvania precision platformer. You start out controlling a dog that can dash through walls and enemies. You will unlock new characters and abilities as you progress through the non-linear stages.

The duck, for example, unlocks double jump. The character switching is automatic, which means double jumping will switch you to the duck if you are playing as a different character.

Unlocking new abilities will give you access to new areas of the map that weren’t previously accessible. So, you can expect to do quite a bit of backtracking.

Dimensional Animals is a pretty game to look at thanks to its charming pixel art. The only real negative is that the frame rate will drop any time you kick a rock.

Outside of that, the game is a fun mix of exploration and precision platforming. If you are a fan of Metroidviania platformers, then make sure to check out Dimensional Animals.
