Kaboomania on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Kaboomania, thanks to a review copy provided by Fancy Factory.

You can check out my gameplay video below:

You can also take a look at my first impressions of Kaboomania below:

Pros:

  • Authentic Amiga 1200 visuals with an excellent original soundtrack.
  • Plenty of cool power-ups.
  • 1,000 levels to play through.

Cons:

  • Password system required to resume progress.

Overall:

Kaboomania is mazer bomber that is inspired by the Bomberman series. Originally developed for the Amiga 1200, the port stays true to the classic computer platform with its detailed 2D pixels. Composed by Chris Huelsbeck, the soundtrack is also quite lovely as it adds to the atmosphere of the game.

In Kaboomania, you destroy obstacles and kill enemies by dropping dynamites. After killing all enemies in the level, you need to find the newly-opened exit to get to the next level.

To make your journey easier, there are several power-ups you can pick. One of which will randomly drop bombs in the level, while another will kill any enemies that get close to you with a ninja star.

The game can be quite fun, especially when dealing with the diverse enemies that behave quite differently from each other. You will constantly be on your toes, trying to kill enemies while making sure you stay alive at the same time.

Overall, Kaboomania offers a fun take to the classic Bomberman formula. The only real issue is that you need to use a password system to resume the level where you lost all your lives in. If you forgot the password, then you have to start the game all over from the beginning.

As long as you don’t mind writing down passwords, then you should have a great time with Kaboomania.
