I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Thrill Penguin on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review copy provided by Ratalaika Games.
You can find gameplay video below:
You can also take a look at my first impressions of Thrill Penguin below:
- Pros:
- Responsive controls.
- Fast-paced levels.
- Great looking NES-style graphics and excellent soundtrack.
Cons:
- Precision platforming can be frustrating for some.
Overall:
Thrill Penguin is a 2D precision platformer. This means that you won’t be able to afford a lot of mistakes as the auto-scrolling level will eventually get to you.
As a penguin, you have some moves that will help you out, including wall jumping, wall climbing, being able to slide quickly on your stomach, fast swimming, and more.
Along with tight and responsive controls, Thrill Penguin offers a great presentation with its mix of charming 8-bit visuals and a stellar soundtrack.
The only potential issue is that some of the levels can be quite frustrating as you will die repeatedly. Once you finally conquer it, however, you will feel a gratifying sense of accomplishment.
If you are a fan of other hardcore 2D platformers like Super Meat Boy, then Thrill Penguin is a must play.
