I recently got a chance to play around an hour of MiceGard on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Valkyrie Initiative.
You can find my gameplay video, as well as my written impressions, below:
Pros:
- Attack and defensive formations.
- Easy trophies.
Cons:
- None.
Overall:
MiceGard is a top-down 2D action game where you control a squad of mice. While you can let your squad run around and freelance, you can also order them into tight formations.
In the attack formation, you will be able to shoot arrows in unison. However, this will also leave you open to ambushes.
In the defense formation, your squared will form a circle, guarding each other’s backs. You can also attack in this formation, although you are limited to sword strikes in short distances.
Later on in the game, there will also be alternate attack options. In the attack formation, you can do a charging attack. In the defense formation, you can do a shield bash to knock enemies backwards.
The formations keep the action fresh in MiceGard, especially when ambushes are common when you move through the various levels. Not to mention that rebuilding your hub areas will also give you bonuses like increased maximum health and better health regen.
Overall, MiceGard is a rather fun and unique 2D squad-based game that is definitely worth checking out.
