Tale of Dark Lands on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Tale of Dark Lands, thanks to a review code provided by Sometimes You.

You can find my gameplay video and written impressions below:

Pros:

  • Distinct low-polygon graphics.

Cons:

  • Clunky combat.

Overall:

Tale of Dark Lands is an action role-playing game that immediately stands out with its low polygon look. The characters, especially, look like high-resolution versions of what you expect from a PS1 game.

Unfortunately, the combat also feels like a action-based western RPG from the PS1 era. Fighting feels clunky as you will be swinging wildly if you don’t turn on Auto-Aim. The path finding of the enemies is also very questionable as they often run around like headless chickens when they are supposed to be engaged in a fight.

The clunkiness does have its charm if you grew up playing PS1 games. If you are coming in with modern-day expectations, especially when it comes to third-person melee combat, then you will mostly be disappointed.
