Monster Rush Survivors on PS5 Pro: First Impressions

I recently got a chance to play around an hour of Monster Rush Survivors on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by Cube Games.

You can watch my gameplay below:

You can also read my impressions on the game so far below:

Pros:

  • Can speed up or slow down movement.
  • Screen clearing moves.

Cons:

  • Some abilities are way better than others.

Overall:

Monster Rush Survivors is a bullet heaven game with some unique twists.

For instance, you can speed up or slow down the movement of your character and enemy. This is extremely helpful during the early stages of the run when there are fewer and slower enemies on the screen. During the start, you can speed up the action before slowly things down when more and more enemies show up.

Another unique twist is the screen clearing abilities. Occasionally you will find a bomb on the ground. By touching it, you will instantly kill all enemies on the screen. One of your character’s abilities is to temporarily drive around in a car, which lets you run over any enemies in the way.

Aside from these, Monster Rush Survivors plays like what you expect from a bullet heaven game. You basically run around trying to dodge enemies and pick up loot while auto-fire your attacks. Part of the loot are gold and equipment, which you can use to provide permanent upgrade.

The only real issue I have with is the lack of balance when it comes to abilities. Based on what I played so far, some attacks are a lot better than others. Some passive boosts, like health regen and increased attack power, have obvious advantage over others as well.

Even with the minor gripe, Monster Rush Survivors is a pretty solid bullet heaven game if you are looking for a similar experience to Vampire Survivors with some twists.
