I recently got a chance to play the first hour of Dead of Darkness on the PlayStation 5 Pro, thanks to a review code provided by eastasiasoft.
You can find my gameplay video below:
You can also check out my initial impressions of the game below:
Pros:
- Faithful “demake” recreation of Resident Evil.
- Great voice acting.
Cons:
- Slow beginning.
Overall:
Dead of Darkness is what you expect Resident Evil to be like in 16-bit form. You run around a zombie-filled environment with locked doors and puzzles, trying to figure out where to go next.
In the harder difficulties, the resources are limited, which means you have to decide between fighting or fleeing.
The only somewhat negative is that the beginning of the game can be very slow as there are a lot of story scenes. Thankfully, the plot seems interesting so far even if it is somewhat generic. Some of the scenes are also voiced, which adds to immersion.
Once you get past the slow beginning, the game puts you in an open environment where you can explore at your leisure.
If you are a fan of the classic Resident Evil formula, then Dead of Darkness is a must-play.
