You can also set up a secondary unlock method as you can use a swipe gesture, drawing pattern, PIN number or password.

What can be done if you can’t unlock your Pixel 6a

If you can’t get the fingerprint sensor to work and don’t remember the information required for the secondary unlock method, then you have no other choice but to factory reset your Google Pixel 6a. By doing so, you will delete all of the data, include the screen lock security, stored on the device.

If you are holding your Pixel 6a phone currently, then you can do the following:

1. Start by powering off your phone. You should be able to do so by pressing and holding the power and volume up buttons at the same time to bring up the power menu. From there, tap the power off option.

2. With the Pixel 6a shut down, you press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously for around 10 to 15 seconds.

3. If done correctly, the phone should boot up in a text only menu. From there, press the volume down button until you see the Recovery Mode option.

4. After getting to the Recovery Mode option, press the power button.

5. Your Pixel 6a should now show a No Command screen. Here, you need to press and hold the power button.

6. Press the volume up button with the power button held down and then let go of both buttons.

7. If done correctly, you should now appear in the Android Recovery menu. From there, use the volume down button navigate over to the Wipe Data/Factory Reset.

8. Finally, press the power button to start the factory reset.

You can also factory reset your Pixel 6a remotely if it is far away. With that said, you will lose its tracking location after doing so. Therefore, we only recommend doing a remote factory reset only if you lost your phone and have no hope of recovering it.

After you are done factory resetting the Google Pixel 6a, you need to go through the initialization process again. During this setup, you should be able to add a new fingerprint unlock profile as well as a secondary unlock method.
