How to fix Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra battery drain issues

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 comes with an 8,000 mAh battery while the Plus version of the S8 features a higher capacity 11,200 mAh battery. The S8 Ultra has the biggest capacity out of this group, however, as it is equipped with a 10,090 mAh battery.

If the battery of your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series tablet is draining faster than expected, then you can check out this troubleshooting guide from Seeking Tech to see what actions you can take.

1. The first step we recommend taking is to make sure that your Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ or Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra does not feel too warm when touched.

If you believe that your tablet is overheating, then we recommend turning it off to let it cool down. If you are charging the device, then you need to unplug it from the power source to cool it down. Otherwise, the internal battery will drain faster than normal due to the internal heat buildup.

2. The apps you have opened may also cause the battery to deplete faster than usual. Therefore, we recommend closing any applications that you aren’t currently using.

3. You may also want to disable any apps running in the background as these may also drain the battery of your Samsung device.

To close these applications, you need to do the following:

  • Launch the Settings App on your tablet.
  • In Settings, go to Battery and Device Care.
  • Next, you need to select Battery.
  • You then need to select Background Usage Limits.
  • Select the apps that you don’t use often and then set usage limitations. Alternatively, you can also select Put Unused Apps to Sleep.

4. Using any wireless connection on your S8, S8 Plus or S8 Ultra will also take up a lot of energy. Therefore, we recommend turning off the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and/or mobile data if you aren’t using these connections.

5. You can also restart your tablet as doing so will close all the apps and lingering processes that may have built up due to continuous use.

To see how you can restart your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 tablet, you can take a look at this tutorial.

6. You can also use the Optimize Now feature to help extend the battery life of your device. In order to do so, you need to take the following steps:

  • To start off, you need to open the Settings App on your S8, S8+ or S8 Ultra.
  • From the very first page of the Settings App, head over to Battery and Device Care.
  • In the Battery and Device Care menu, select Optimize Now.

This feature will delete any unnecessary files in addition to closing any backgrounds memory apps and unneeded running processes. It will also scan your device for excessive battery usage in addition to potential malware.

7. You can also try using your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ or Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra in power saving mode by doing the following:

  • Start by opening the Settings App on your tablet.
  • In the Settings screen, select Battery and Device Care.
  • In the next menu, you need to select Battery.
  • In the Battery screen, make sure that the Power Saving setting is enabled.
  • For additional battery saving settings, you can select More Battery Settings from the same Battery menu.

8. It is also very important to note that the internal battery of Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ or Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will degrade over time, resulting in lower capacity.

To slow down the degradation, we recommend that you don’t recharge and use your tablet at the same time. You should also avoid using the device in extremely cold or extremely hot temperatures.

Last but not least, we recommend keeping the battery level to a range of 20% to 80%. Otherwise, the battery of the S8, S8 Plue or S8 Ultra may become too stressed if the capacity gets too low or too high.
