The Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the latest smartphones released by Google in 2021. These three phones use the following screen panels:
- Pixel 5a with 5G: FHD+ (1080 x 2400) 413 ppi OLED
- Pixel 6: FHD+ (1080 x 2340) 411 ppi OLED
- Pixel 6 Pro: QHD+ (1440 x 3120) 512 ppi LTPO OLED
While OLED provides a stellar image quality, it is also more prone to screen burn-ins when compared to other screen types.
You can check out this guide from Seeking Tech to see how you can prevent burn-in issues with the Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
1. One of the precautionary steps you can take is to make sure the sleep timer is set to a relatively short time.
In order to do so, you can do the following:
- Open the Settings app on your Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro. You can do so by swiping downwards from the top. You may have to swipe downwards again to be able to tap Settings, which has a gear cog icon.
- Inside Settings, select Display.
- In the Display menu, select Screen timeout.
In the pop-up menu, you can change the timer to any of the following:
- 15 seconds
- 30 seconds
- 1 minute
- 2 minutes
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 30 minutes
You should set the sleep timer to 2 minutes are less.
2. You can also lower the brightness level of the OLED screen, which you can do by taking the following steps:
- Go to Settings.
- In the Settings menu, go to Display.
- In the Display menu select Brightness level.
- In the pop-up bar, you should be able to lower the brightness.
3. You may also want to consider disabling Adaptive brightness. This feature will automatically adjust the brightness level based on the ambient lighting conditions.
To disable this feature, you can do the following:
- Head to Settings.
- Once you get to Settings, head to Display.
- In the Display menu make sure that the Adaptive brightness setting is disabled. You can select that setting to disable/enable it on your phone.
4. You should also avoid overheating your Google Pixel 5a with 5G, Google Pixel 6 or Google Pixel 6 Pro as doing so may increase the chances of screen burns.
You can check out this tutorial to see how you can prevent and fix overheat issues with your Pixel smartphone.
5. If you are playing a game, using an app and/or watching a video that have high-contrast static images that appear on the same area of the OLED screen (such as a heads-up display in a game or logo in a video), then make sure you take a break once in a while.
While taking a break, press the power button on the Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro to put your phone to sleep and turn the OLED screen off. Alternatively, you can also open another app, game or video so that the screen will be displaying something else aside from the same static image.
