How to prevent and fix water damages for iPhone 13, mini, Pro and Pro Max

While the new iPhone 13 models offer protection against water, you could still end up damaging your smartphone in certain scenarios.

What is the IP rating for iPhone 13, mini, Pro and Pro Max?

The iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max have an IP68 rating.

In terms of small particles, these phones are completely shielded against again dust, dirt, sand and other small particles from getting inside.

As for water, these models have been tested to provide protection against being fully submersed in water at a maximum depth of 6 meters for the duration of up to 30 minutes.

Keep in mind that the IP rating does not account for the normal wear and tear of using your phone. The rating also assumes that you keep the SIM tray closed.

How to prevent water damage for iPhone 13, mini, Pro and Pro Max?

In order to prevent your iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Max from being damaged due to water, you can try taking the following precautions:

1. Don’t use your phone when swimming,

2. Don’t use your phone when taking a bath.

3. Don’t use your phone is a sauna.

4. Don’t use your phone in a steam room.

5. Don’t use your phone when taking a shower.

6. Don’t use your phone when water skiing.

7. Don’t use your phone when wake boarding.

8. Don’t use your phone when jet skiing.

9. Don’t use you phone when surfing.

10. Avoid exposing your phone in other situations where it is hit by water at a high velocity.

11. Of course, you should also not intentionally submerge your phone in water.

11. Make sure to use phone within the recommended operating temperature range of 32° F to 95° F (0° C to 35° C).

12. You should also avoid extremely humid conditions.

13. Bumping or dropping your phone may weaken its effectiveness to keep out water.

14. Taking apart your phone may also result in lesser protection against water, especially if you don’t put it back together exactly as it was before.

How to dry a wet iPhone 13, mini, Pro and Pro Max?

If your iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Max got wet, then you can take the following steps to dry your phone:

1. If you have any cables plugged into your phone, make sure you unplug them as soon as possible.

2. If you are wirelessly charging your phone, remove it from your wireless charging mat as soon as possible.

3. If your phone has been exposed to a liquid type other than water (such as adhesive remover, acid, acidic food, detergent, hair dye, insect repellent, lotions, oil, perfume, soap, solvents or sunscreen), then you should rinse the affected portion through tap water.

You can then use a soft, lint-free cloth, to wipe the affected part.

4. Next, hold your phone with your hand in the portrait orientation with the Lightning connector facing down.

5. Gently tap the phone using your finger to remove any excess liquid that by inside.

6. If you believe that liquid has gotten into the speaker of microphone, you can hold the phone with the screen pointing downwards to see if any water is dripping out.

7. The next step is to simply wait until your phone completely air dries.

Apple doesn’t recommend using an external heat source or objects (such as a cotton swab or paper towel) to speed up the drying process.

However, you can place a fan blowing cool air. The fan should be blowing the air directly into the Lightning connector of the iPhone 13.

8. Apple recommends waiting 5 hours at the minimum for your iPhone 13 to air dry before opening the SIM tray, reconnecting any cables and/or recharging your phone.
