When using your Google Pixel 6 or Google Pixel 6 Pro, you may notice that your smartphone may become laggy, slowing down or becoming unresponsive.

1. The first step you should take is to close any open apps by taking the following steps:
- To see a list of opened apps, slowly swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- Once you feel a small rumble on your phone, you can let go.
- In the opened apps menu, swipe upwards on any of the apps to close it. Alternatively, you can scroll all the way to the left and then tap the “Clear all” option to close all the currently opened apps.
2. You can also try closing any apps you have running in the background by doing the following:
- First you need to unlock the “Developer options.” To do so, start by opening the Settings app.
- To get to the Settings app, swipe upwards from an empty area on the home screen to show a list of installed apps. From there, tap Settings.
- In Settings, tap the “About phone” option.
- Inside of the “About phone” menu, tap the “Build number” option 7 times quickly. This should unlock “Developer options.”
- Go back to the first page of the Settings app and then head into System.
- Inside the System menu, tap “Developer options. “
- Once you get to the “Developer options” menu, make sure to enable “Use developer options.”
- Next, select “Running services.”
- After getting to the “Running services” menu, you should see a list of background apps that are currently opened. Here, tap the app that you want to close.
- Inside the “Running app” menu, tap “Stop.”
3. In the same “Developer options” menu, we also recommend that you also disable the “Force peak refresh rate” and “Allow window-level blurs” settings.
4. If you think that an app is causing your phone to slow down, then you can either uninstall it or disable it by taking the following steps:
- Head to the Settings app.
- In Settings, select Apps.
- In the Apps menu, tap the “See all apps” option.
- Inside the “All apps” menu, tap the app that you want to delete or disable.
- In the “App info” menu, tap the Uninstall option for apps that can be deleted or the Disable option for apps that can’t be deleted.
5. Furthermore, you should also clear the cache of temporary files on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro. To find out how to do so, you can check out this guide.
6. Resetting your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro phone may also help alleviate the laggy, showdown and unresponsive issues.
In order to reset, press the power and volume up buttons at the same time. In the pop-up menu, select the Restart option.
7. The Smooth Display setting could also be slowing your Google phone down. To disable this feature, you can do the following:
- Open Settings.
- In Settings, tap Display.
- Inside Display, make sure that the Smooth Display setting is disabled.
8. You can also try updating the software for all the applications you have installed on your phone, which you can do by taking the following steps:
- Open the Play Store app.
- In the Play Store, tap you profile image, which Is located on the right side of the search bar.
- In the pop-up menu, tap the “Manage apps & devices” option.
- In the “Manage apps & devices” menu, tap the “Update all.”
9. You should also keep the firmware of your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro up to date by doing the following:
- Head into Settings.
- In Settings, select System.
- Inside the System menu, go to “System update.”
- If there is a new firmware available, then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it.
- 10. If you have the Extreme Battery Saver setting turned on, then you should turn it off as the feature will slow your Google smartphone down.
- To do so, you can take the following steps:
- Go to the Settings app.
- In the Settings menu, tap Battery.
- Inside the Battery menu, tap Batter Saver.
- In the Batter Saver menu, tap Extreme Battery Saver.
- Once you get to the Extreme Battery Saver menu, tap the “When to use” option.
- In the “When to use” menu, select the “Never use” option.
