Lexar SATA III 6Gb/s SSDs: NS100 vs. NS200

Lexar has two similar SATA III solid state drives with the NS100 and NS200. So, what are the differences between these products? You can find out in this comparison guide between the internal SSDs.

Quick Summary

When compared to the 256GB Lexar NS100, the 256GB Lexar NS200 has slightly faster maximum sequential read speed. The 512GB and 1TB capacities for both solid state drives have identical speeds when it comes to max sequential reads.

In general, the Lexar NS200 2.5” SATA III SSD should be faster than the Lexar NS100 2.5” SATA III SSD at maximum sequential write speeds, maximum random read speeds and maximum random write speeds.

If you are looking for the fastest speeds, especially for playing games and/or running programs, then the NS200 is clearly the best option. If you are planning to use the internal SSD as a simple storage drive where you occasionally transfer files, then you may want to get the NS100 instead as it is the more affordable option.

Maximum Sequential Write Speed

Only the Lexar NS200 has been listed with a maximum sequential write speed. You will be able to get up to 510 MB per second at each capacity.

Maximum Random Read Speed

The NS200 is also the only model to get a maximum random read speed listed as you can get up 95K IOPS with all capacity options.

Maximum Random Write Speed

Furthermore, the Lexar NS200 is also the only product in this versus guide that have a listed maximum random write speed as you can get up to 90K IOPS for all capacities.

SSD Dash Management

Both products support SSD Dash Management, which lets you check on the status and performance of your internal solid state drive.

TBW

Terabytes Written, or TBW, measures the endurance of a solid state drive in terms of how much data can be written during the SSD’s warranty period. The TBW is the same for the Lexar NS100 and Lexar NS200 when you compared the 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB capacitates.

  • 128GB NS100 SSD: 64 TB
  • 256GB NS100 SSD: 128 TB
  • 512GB NS100 SSD: 256 TB
  • 1TB NS100 SSD: 512 TB
  • 256GB NS200 SSD: 128 TB
  • 512GB NS200 SSD: 256 TB
  • 1TB NS200 SSD: 512 TB

DWPD

Device Writes Per Day, or DWPD, also measures endurance. This specification, however, measures how much data can be written on average to the solid state drive over a daily basis over the warranty period. All capacities of the NS100 and NS200 have the same DWPD of 0.46 TB.

Shock Resistance

Both Lexar SSDs have the same shock resistance specifications:

  • 1500G, Duration 0.5 ms, Half Sine Wave

Vibration Resistance

The two products also have identical vibration resistance specs:

  • 10~2000Hz, 1.5 mm, 20G, 1 Oct/min, 30min/axis (X, Y and Z)

Warranty

Both the Lexar NS100 2.5” SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD and Lexar NS200 2.5” SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD each come with a three-year limited warranty.
