KODAK SD Cards Comparison

KODAK currently has five different SD cards available. So, what are the main differences between the Extra Performance, Premium Performance, Ultra Performance, Ultra Pro Performance (V60) and Ultra Pro Performance (V90)?

You can find out in this comparison between the five SD cards.

Quick Summary

When compared to the other SD Cards, the Ultra Pro Performance (V90) has the best reading and writing speed. Therefore, it is best suited for video recordings at up to 8K in resolution.

While you can also record at up to 8K with the Ultra Pro Performance (V60), the video will be of lower quality due to the slower writing speed.

The Ultra Performance can record at up to 4K while the Premium Performance can record at up to 1080p.

We only recommend the Extra Performance if you are looking for a SD card for storage only.

Ultra High-Speed Bus Interface

When it comes to the Ultra High-Speed Bus Interface, the two versions of the Ultra Pro use UHS-II. Both are also backwards compatible with UHS-I devices although you will get slower speeds.

The Extra Performance, Premium Performance and Ultra Performance SD cards use UHS-I. These cards are also forward compatible with UHS-II devices although the speeds will remain the same as UHS-I devices.

  • You can find a breakdown of the interfaces below:
  • KODAK SD Extra Performance: UHS-I (with UHS-II forward compatibility)
  • KODAK SD Premium Performance: UHS-I (with UHS-II forward compatibility)
  • KODAK SD Ultra Performance: UHS-I (with UHS-II forward compatibility)
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V60): UHS-II (with UHS-I backwards compatibility)
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V90): UHS-II (with UHS-I backwards compatibility)

Maximum Reading Speed

When it comes to maximum reading, the two versions of the Ultra Pro Performance are easily the fastest. Both are more than 3 times faster than the second fastest SD card, which is the Ultra Performance.

The Premium Performance is slightly slower than the Ultra Performance. The Extra Performance is easily the slowest out of this group.

You can find the maximum read speed specifications below:

  • KODAK SD Extra Performance: Up to 20 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Premium Performance: Up to 85 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Performance: Up to 95 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V60): Up to 300 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V90): Up to 300 MB per second

Maximum Writing Speed

As for maximum writing, the Ultra Pro Performance (V90) easily beats out the other four SD cards.

The next fastest is the KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V60) while the third is the Ultra Performance.

The fourth fastest, with a huge gap, is the Premium Performance. The Extra Performance is easily the slowest out of this series.

Write speeds for SD card is mainly associated with video recording. Thus, the Ultra Pro Performance (V90) is the best overall as you will be able to record high quality videos at up to 8K in resolution.

The Ultra Pro Performance (V60) can also record 8K videos although the quality will be lower.

The Ultra Performance can record videos at up to 4K although the quality will be lower than the Ultra Pro Performance cards.

The Premium Performance is capable of 1080p video recording although the quality won’t be as good as the Ultra Performance and Ultra Pro Performance cards.

We don’t recommend using the Extra Performance for video recording at 1080p as it writing speed is very slow.

You can find the maximum write speed specs below:

  • KODAK SD Extra Performance: Up to 12 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Premium Performance: Up to 25 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Performance: Up to 85 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V60): Up to 100 MB per second
  • KODAK SD Ultra Pro Performance (V90): Up to 270 MB per second
